THE REDEVELOPMENT OF THE COLLINS MUSIC HALL COULD NOT
HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT A VISIONARY LOCAL COUNCIL
Sally Greene, Creative Director, Leisure Division

Islington Estate

Originally acquired in 1995, the Islington Estate occupies the north end of Islington Green. It is currently completing a major redevelopment aimed at reviving the old Collins Music Hall and creating space for specialist shops and restaurants.

Map of the Islington Estate Location

We are building seventy new apartments, creating performance space, retail and leisure destinations as part of the overall project on the Islington Estate. The aim is to fund the new 600 seat theatre without public subsidy.

The new development will also house one of the latest of the Leisure Division's restaurant operations: the Islington Greene Brasserie. The completion of the development and the fitting out of the retail and leisure space is scheduled for early 2012 to coincide with the London Olympics.

The Collins Music Hall is an important building in the history of British entertainment, which had been destroyed following a fire in 1958.

A groundbreaking scheme was drawn up by award-winning architectural practice CZWG, under the direction of senior partner Piers Gough CBE, well known for the success of his urban design schemes.

The ambitious design of the new theatre, inspired by the film set of the Rose Theatre from the film Shakespeare in Love, will provide additional cultural vibrancy to an already hip and bustling area.

Vision

Our vision for the Islington Estate, working in harmony with the local Council is to create an important London commercial and cultural hub by revitalising Islington Green.

We aim to promote cultural festivals for the arts, supported by the services provided at the Collins Music Hall served by our leisure facilities and actively managed commercial properties.

As the plans take shape, we are actively seeking business partners. Specifically, we are looking for event and venue hire businesses, specialist shopping operators, restaurant owner operators and niche commercial operators looking to realise this vision, whilst enjoying the benefits of the increase in profile, footfall and associated business opportunities.
