Islington Estate

Originally acquired in 1995, the Islington Estate occupies the north end of Islington Green. It is currently completing a major redevelopment aimed at reviving the old Collins Music Hall and creating space for specialist shops and restaurants.

Map of the Islington Estate Location

70 new apartments, performance space, retail and leisure accommodation is also being developed as part of our overall regeneration project on the Islington Estate and to help fund the new 600 seat theatre without public subsidy. The new development will also house the latest of the Leisure Division’s brasserie operations, the Islington Greene Brasserie. The completion of the development and the fitting out of the retail and leisure space is scheduled for Spring 2009.

The Collins Music Hall is an important building in the history of British entertainment, which had been destroyed following a fire in 1958. A groundbreaking scheme was drawn up by award-winning architectural practise CZWG, under the direction of senior partner Piers Gough CBE, well known for the success of his urban design schemes. The ambitious design of the new theatre, inspired by the film set of the Rose Theatre from the film Shakespeare in Love, aims to add new vibrancy to the area, putting it on the map as a cultural hub.

Vision

Our vision for the Islington Estate, working in harmony with the local Council is to create an important London cultural hub and to revitalise Islington Green. We aim to promote cultural festivals for the arts, supported by the services provided at the Collins Music Hall and its leisure facilities.

We thank Dame Judi Dench who gave us the original set of the Rose Theatre from the film, ‘Shakespeare in Love’ and which inspired the whole re-development of the Islington site.
